FM spokesperson claims no arms-grade enrichment in Iran

(MENAFN) Iran has no intention of pursuing nuclear weapons and has never enriched uranium to weapons-grade levels, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told RT on Saturday. He strongly criticized recent US and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling them unprovoked and dangerous.

Baghaei dismissed Israeli accusations that Iran has secretly worked on developing nuclear arms, stating that such claims are not supported by any findings from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). “Iran has consistently made it clear over the past decades that it does not seek nuclear weapons,” he said. “The IAEA has never provided evidence showing any deviation from peaceful nuclear activity.”

He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program remains entirely civilian in nature, citing IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who recently confirmed there is no indication of a systematic nuclear weapons effort by Tehran.

Baghaei expressed disappointment with the IAEA for not condemning the attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites. “The IAEA and its Board of Governors must uphold their responsibilities by clearly denouncing the US and Israeli actions,” he asserted.

He also defended Iran’s legal right to enrich uranium under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), criticizing the US for attempting to reinterpret the treaty in a way that undermines the rights of developing nations.

Earlier this week, Iran’s parliament approved a bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, accusing the agency of enabling the recent attacks by serving as a pretext for aggression.
